It's been awhile. I blame the alcoholism and the drugs. They never warn you exactly how much time cocaine takes up out of your day, do they?

It's been a strange holiday. Rushing about, trips on buses and trains to make various family commitments all over the ass end of Ontario. My sister and her family were over from Brisbane to visit, which brings up all the normal issues of entertainment and aggravation. There are times that I'm convinced my mother isn't truly happy without children to weigh against each other. Don't get me wrong. Mom's a peach. But, on the field of leveraged sibling rivalry, Skye's already taken the hill, fortified it and started rolling gas down into my crumbling trenches. All families should be related to via WWI analogues.

Christmas was oddly painless. One of those rare ones where I got everything I asked for. Considering I only asked for two things, it's quite a remarkable achievement by my family. I would like to thank the people who came up at New Years for their generosity. It was totally unexpected and unnecessary, but I appreciate it.

New Years was an entertaining time. Strange mix of people, but oddly enough, it worked. I like the fact that all I have to do is dump responsibility on the Australian and then make a break for the pub. This is certainly a system which needs to continue.

Happy birthday to Nute.

Otherwise, things are, well, going. I'm suffering the typical unemployed male depression syndrome, which is sad because my job was kind of useless. Also, wicked insomnia. These days, I'm happy if I get to sleep prior to six in the morning. Which has the effect of killing my motivation to work during the day on things, which in turn fuels the depression and feelings of uselessness. And people wonder why I drink?

Hmm, considering, next time I'll just add random pornography to these updates.

Random porn for the win!

...so long as it's good porn...

I had a blast at New Years, thanks again for having us all up there.

I hear ya on the 'weighing children against each other' thing. My sister is a Marine officer, following in her dad's footsteps. I took 7.5 years to graduate college. You do the math. :-/

And don't forget the offer on the table for July.

I forget your sister's name is also Skye. I thought you were referring to my sister for a moment, which sort of freaked me out. :D

Glad to see you had a good holiday. Making all the various holiday gatherings can suck a lot of energy out of people, usually. Insomnia sucks though..:/

I look forward to the random pornography.

It's not just guys. I suffered from it some when we moved to LA and A) I VOLUNTARILY quit my job and B) was getting unemployment. It's aggravating and annoying, and I completely sympathize for you.

There are few things that are worse than feeling useless. I'm sorry to hear of your woes, but I am glad you had an interesting holiday. =)

Now draw me some porn!

I still regret that I never slept with your sister.

And hopefully you'll breake the coke habit and get back to work, soon.

... I'm going to sincerely hope that you are joking, in the optimistic view that you cannot possibly be as socially backwards as to actually having posted this seriously.

Do you honestly think that if Dex was -actually- on cocaine that he would admit it on his journal for all the world to see?

Espically considering that his roommate would kick his butt?

And here I am coming back to the point that I wasn't going to make in the first place.

DM, you can't actually -order- anyone to do ANYTHING over the internet. It doesn't work.

Me personally, telling me to do anything "NOW"? Well, frankly? Unless you're secretly a 6th dan black belt running a dojang in Northern Virginia, is gonna get you exactly nowhere.

As for the rest of the internet community? What effect do you honestly think you will achieve? Do you really think that anyone is going to think "Oh golly, Darkmark ordered me to do something! He's a few decades older than me, he must know everything there is to know!"

It shows a strong lack of respect for people as fellow adults, intellectual equals, and human beings to order them around willy-nilly as if you were somehow their superior officer, supervisor or appointed teacher.

If you really want to continue this, I'd recommend emailing me, because this isn't Dex's journal, and I shouldn't have commented in the first place, having correctly guessed the outcome of the entire conversation up until now.

This IS Dex's journal. Note to self: Double proofread snark at midnight. ;)

Re: insomnia.

I hear -that-. Insomnia bites the big one.

Have you tried ... well, basically forcing yourself to stay up through a bout of insomnia until your optimum bedtime? (I'm going to presume that you've gone through all the normal insomnia curing routes with the no caffiene and suchlike?)

Gah. So been there with the out of work blues. Hope things start looking up for you on the job front soon, mate and that the insomnia goes away quickly.
