Former Secretary of State Lawrence Eagleburger, a Republican, suggested the public anguishing had gone on long enough over the prisoner abuse — which politicians of all persuasions condemn. Interviewed on CNN, he suggested it was time to "stop this nonsense of crying over this thing to the point where we look absurd."

Yes, it's gone on almost two weeks. Time to cover it up and move on to more important areas of Republican concern, such as, did John Kerry really throw away his medals?

The longer this pre-election furor goes on, the more sickened that I am. More so, because Bush still can consider it his election to lose.

Heh. You think you're sickened, try being a part of the target audience. I never had a particularly high view of politics, but this entire affair has left me with almost no faith in due process (re: the remarkably "lost" votes of heavily black counties -- and remind me to track down a copy of "The Best Democracy Money Can Buy" sometime this summer), and very, very little in those who pursue political office. I'm aware that there are many people who get into politics to do good, and actually fulfill those obligations, but the people who abuse the system are so prominent the good acts are overshadowed by the bad.

The really horrible thing about this situation is that it's souring a whole new generation to the world of politics. Most people I know used to go "Oh, yeah, politicians are crooked", but it wasn't as viscerally personal as it is now. While it's good to have a cynical view of politics, it's not good if that cynicism goes to the extent of apathy, like I see happening now. Even I'm having a hard time with it -- while I'm paying much more attention to politics now than ever before, the more I do the more I feel like nothing I say or do will change things for the country. It's not a fun feeling. I'll vote, and I'll be informed about it, but it feels like I'm just going through the motions. I think that's the one thing I just can't forgive about this administration: it's taken away my trust in my country, and that trust wasn't high to begin with. So yeah, thanks, Bush administration.

And people wonder why I don't pay attention to the news. Cuz they take shit and milk the fuck out of it.
It's not like they really did anything too nasty.
It's a prison, there's got to be some level of pyschological and pysical (I still can't spell for shit) control.
Yeah they kind of went a tad to far compared to a regular prison.
But that's a military prison staffed pretty much by part-time soldiers full time mcjobbers.
Trained via the 2 minate drill of what to do. So they got a little out of the box on them.
SO WHAT? yeah certain rights we're violated but HOW MANY rights do you have if your in prison detained in the mannor that those guys were?
Also I heard their was a near riot right before that and pretty much they did that to the dudes involved.
I think in someplaces they would have gotten WORSE, yet no body talks about those places. (it's not like they beat them up, poisoned them, shot them, then stabbed them, then hung them and THEN castrated them and THEN fed the bodies to dogs and the other prisoners raw.)
I could rant on the other crap that goes on that gets swept under the rug for shit like this.
