Notes from a Snowy Life

So, I managed to go down on my right knee literally two steps out my front door this morning. Pain drugs have been taken, and if they fail to work, I shall move on to step two, which involves heroin, a big set of hedge shears and some leverage.
I've been asked by multiple people about Egypt and my response is this; from the wider geopolitical viewpoint and goals of the West, Mubaruk's ouster is likely not a good thing. If he's replaced with a political group that is openly hostile to Israel, things could get very uncomfortable very fast. However, if we're talking about Egypt from the perspective of, you know, Egyptians, it's a little harder to suggest that their self-determination should be put off because it might not be in the best interests of the G7. I also do not know enough about the internal politics, major players, influences and abuses of the regime to make anything more than a facile snap opinion. Which is a very long way of essentially shrugging and saying 'dunno'. I do like this picture though.

Webcomic time! I actually don't read a lot of webcomics. I prefer the format of something like Ellis' FreakAngels, which is more of a web digest, and I've been considering using something similar as a more realistic way of getting my sadly aging MS JESUS script realized and up. However, I do trawl through comics that have either had a significant amount of time online to have built up a decent volume of work to read through, or that are the web versions of a future book. Here's the latest I've enjoyed.
Ivy - beautiful line work and fairly deftly written about a young woman looking to escape Maine to study art. Nicely realized characters and an art style that is very visually arresting. If she finds a publisher, I'd be very interested in picking this up.

Hereville: How Mirka Got Her Sword - As the author puts it 'Yet Another Troll Fighting Orthodox Jewish Girl Comic'. Wonderfully illustrated with a style that has shades of Eisner, it is a nice example of modern folklore, steeped through the (presumably) Orthodox Jewish lifestyle and traditions.

Adventures of the Floating Elephant - A surprisingly well written piece, that incorporates elements of Miller at his best in the artwork. The story is deceptively complex; a kind of 'Elmore Leonard as if stuck writing one of Stephen King's little towns' approach that keeps veering closer and closer towards an adventure from Hollywood's Golden Age.

Last chance to put up with my writing on DW. I'm shuttering the friends function tomorrow and posting the first of what will be undoubtedly delayed and sporatic content for my own ego. All posts will be locked, so if you want in on my normal narcessistic masturbatory self-love, please follow and friend this journal: http://dexfarkin.dreamwidth.org/
Alright, my knee still hurts. Away with all of you.
