First, I'd like to applaud most, if not all of the contributors to this thread. There has been a lot of coments that could have turned into a flame war, save for the work and patience of those involved. I applaud you all.
Secondly, I think we've made a fairly major step. I believe that in gerenal that we have determined that comicverse is not out to ghettoize movieverse, and movieverse isn't a bunch of loud-mouthed malcontents with a martyr complex.
So, what comes out of this?
My personal hope? A lot of good fanfiction. Hopefully, more comicverse people exploring the movieverse and vice versa. Ultimitely, I think we have all learned a little something as fans and writers, and how the communities interact. If we're lucky, we can combine this into a greater whole, and not accept the divisions as a given.
So, let's move past the divisions, and look at the greater whole. While risking a Gladiator type pastiche, I'll ask who is with me. Let's be proud of being fanfic writers and dump the crap we have all built up about the rest of us. Movieverse, comicverse... let's all write, and go from there.
Good writing, everyone.
I suppose it's not the best example, but when I started fic, I was an X-Men reader. Actually started as an X-Factor reader way back in Inferno times (15 years ago now. How's that for feeling dated?). However, it was fanfiction that introduced to Warren Ellis, Garth Ennis, Grant Morrison; to Captain America, Iron Man, Batman, Hellblazer, Invisibles. I've gained a lot and written a lot from cross-fandom fertilization. Hopefully, this will lead others in the same direction.
