Random Nonsense

I am suffering the vicious flu, thus have had all the mental ability of a mildly concussed red squirrel recently. The Sick, as I call it. It deserves a title.

After playing Grand Theft Auto for long enough, you lack the ability to look at cars passing by on the street without considering how useful they might be, and mentally imagine yanking people out of them.

I haven't been to a movie since before Christmas. I've been to many excellent restaraunts and purchased quite a few books instead. I think I might be on to something. Mind you, reading four books on the reign of Catherine the Great in a row is not healthy for your mental state. That and I really want to bomb the Turks now.

Conservative party elects a leader today. The Fear is back, especially since Paul Martin has sabotaged his party as effectively as possible. Personally. I'll lobby for a minority government in the hope that in the next five years, actual leaders emerge and not these jingo-laden whackjobs currently running. Except Layton. He can stay.

You know, if I didn't understand so completely what you mean, I think I might well have died from shock. I wish I had recordings of the political conversations we had when we were young. Damn we were naive back then. The funny thing is I heard Rush the other day, and I fully realized what you ment when you said that the man had completely fallen off the edge.

Hey, I wouldn't vote for Jack, since I think the NDP are still the political equivilant of bad uni student politics. But, he himself is an excellent leader, and will carve wonderfully large chunks out of the leftist Liberal numbers.

Funny how the NDP, a marginal party, have attracted such excellent leaders mostly: Tommy Douglas, Ed Broadbent, Bob Rae, Howard Hampton...

But the idea of Stephen Harper in power? Remember the Fear? That covers it. Preston Manning was a politician. Him, I could have taken. But Harper is a zealot. Worse, he's a highly intelligent, calculating, able zealot. Bush with a brain. And we'd become America II with him at the helm.

It's bad when you support Belinda Stronach because you know her handlers...

If Stronach wins, I suppose I could vote the NDP to make them the swing vote, If it's Harper, I will vote for whomever can best defeat him. Harper is the worst of the right wing, and I hope and prey he never gets in. If he does, you might as well rename the conservatives the Reform party and as for Paul Martin, well the further right the Conservatives go, the better he looks.

I have a sick, sick fondness for GTA. Unfortunately it's in my brother's possession and he, for some strange reason, reckons it should stay that way. Want to ram into innocent people on the street, damnit.

Also, would you happen to have the titles and/or authors of those Catherine the Great books handy?

At least you are not ACTUALLY pulling people from the cars after establishing if they would be of a beneficial use to you.

I just got over The Sickness. It took two weeks and sheer willpower...I think it would have been quite happy to stay a couple months.

Nooooooooo! You can't be sick when I'm visiting. That means that I might get sick, too and I can't take you drinking like I said I would. This is just wrong.

Just get him a shot of Everclear. It will either kill him or cure him. The odds are 50/50. :)

Shot of vodka. Douse with tabasco. Cured.

As for the Torys, who are we kidding? The leadership race was between a political neophyte who got attention in QC more for her lack of political experience than for what she could accomplish, and an old-school reform founder who pretty much had the lock on the old school vote. Tony was never a playa.

Want to know how to win the next election? Two simple changes: 1. Any time there is a shortage of monet for welfare, edu., health or defence, cut MP and minister salaries to make up the difference. Watch them all become black belts at fiscal management. 2. Eliminate the Gov-General's position. Could she be any more useful. Hell, Dex, YOU probably do more to promote Canadian culture and tourism than she does.

And considering that I only asked for access to a tenth of her expense account, I feel the lack of interest by the Canadian to be a major failing.
