I certainly looked at the datestamp on the post; I had to look it up. I remembered it being meta-quoted, as this one was, and thought there were some rather glaringly obvious contradictions. Obviously one is allowed to change one's mind over time; my admittedly snarkilicious comment was simply meant to ask, does that apply to your own rather strident historical posts in favor of non-ship, plot-heavy fic?

Yes, you were commenting on the predomination of one form of fanfiction (romance/relationship), and bemoaning the lack of another (action/adventure/plot-driven). Both of which actions would seem to be covered by the spirit of "Any bitching about lack of interest in a genre, a pairing, fandom, award or archive is solely self-deluding masturbation on the part of the ‘bitcher’ and reveals their own deep lack of ability to convey their own interests to others. Suck it up and deal with it. " Or are you suggesting that comaplaining about too *much* of some subgenre that you don't like to read and are incapable of deleting, is not self-deluding masturbation, but somehow a valuable addition to fandom-at-large, unlike those who complain that not enough people are writing the kinds of things they like? Both actions seem equally pointless and masturbatory to me.

Moreover, "relationship fic" vs. "action fic" vs. "political intrigue fic" is not a style issue; it's a genre issue. Writing in the same genre ad inifinitum is no guarantee that any given author won't experiment with style, character, etc. "Thou shalt experiment" is a reasonable suggestion in terms of writers who continually write the same story, in multiple fandoms, over multiple years. As a request for people to switch the subject of their stories and write more of what you're interested in, though, it comes off as wankily as you're suggesting others are being.
