If I was the policeman of fanfic, we would all be hip-deep in blood and civil rights violations.
More importantly, too much of criticism in fanfic is worded in such carefully non-offense terms that all power is lost and pre-apologized for. So, fuck that. You want the whiny feel good posts that offer flowers and bunnies with the beta read, go elsewhere. You want my opinions, then there will be a vast amount of pulling your head out of your ass and accepting that what is said might not be nice. In fact, most likely it will not be nice. Intentionally. And people will get together in thier little groups and tell themselves that I don't have a clue what I'm talking about and that I'm a horrible man and thank god they have the support of thier friends who are smart and kind and care about people's feelings.
And then that lot will produce 100,000 words of utter shite and the process begins anew. Isn't fandom fun? If more people would stand up and say 'This is crap, this is crap and this is crap. Learn or get the fuck out', there would be far more readable work on the net, and far less of the crap that currently chokes the lists.
