Dear Super-Being of Choice
Feb. 16th, 2012 08:28 pmI don't often pray, because praying to secular humanism is essentially turning to the guy next to you at the bar and going 'be awesome tomorrow, right?'. But in this case, I'd like to offer up a prayer to whatever hoary immortal space daddy is willing to take it, when I humbly ask him to help fulfill a devout wish of mine and deliver me the giant, triple cheese deep dish pizza and China White filled IV bag of the political junkie.
Yes, oh great Allovah Christ, please granted your humble servant a brokered GOP convention in 2012.
For those who aren't aware, during the nomination process, if no candidate generates enough votes to secure the nomination by the convention, there is a massive amount of political infighting, favours bought and sold, policies adopted or jettisoned, and the gears of party politics applied to keep the lesser lights in line for a candiate to secure the nomination. With Romney's numbers trending badly down of late, especially with his 'Must Win' Michigan now in play due to his own political stupidty, there is no guarantee that he'll be able to lock up a majority of delegates prior to the convention. Which means that the GOP establishment will enter in that Thunderdome meatgrinder in order to determine their bannerman (or bannerwoman).
I should point out, the last brokered convention for the GOP produced Gerald Ford as candidate. In fact, the last winning candidate to be the result of a brokered convention was FDR in 1932.
It's not really so much a concern over Obama's re-election; GOP's brand is tanking with Independents, the US ecomony and unemployment rates are finally crawling upwards, and with them, the President's approval. Really, the only viable candidate in a general election is Romney, and his weak based and the incumbant factor made him a very outside shot at the best. No, the brokered convention will tear open all of those patched over factions who's balkianized power makes up the GOP, and highlight the various facets of the party in a way that will make the primaries thus far look like a schoolyard shoving match. More importantly, the mass of the Right-Wing media is already being forced to line up with their perfered factions and it is creating a delightful environment of invicative which will only escalate.
Just picture it; the convention floor, where candidates and delegates behooven to all of the great anchors of the modern GOP, casting about desperately for a candidate that can lead them. Anyone could be in play. Any faction could seize the momenteum. It would guarantee the kind of madness that we've seen the the primaries letting it's freak flag fly all the way to November 2.
Amen.
