Better Day

So, I have ribs in the oven at barely any heat slowly breaking down in preperation for the BBQ tonight. I was actually able to send out a resume for a job I could do standing on my head, and another headhunter contacted me about a position this morning that could be promising. Baseball resumes regular play tonight. Suffice to say, the bleak, unending gloom has brightened a little over the last few days.

Two things - I can't believe I'm admitting this, but I'm well over 10,000 words into an all new piece of fanfic. I feel like Pacino: "Everytime I think I'm out, they pull me back in!" I blame X-Men: First Class. Not that the movie was more than alright (and I'm sorry fans, but X or X2 it was not. When you only bother to flesh out three characters and rely on Kevin Bacon to chew up the carpet for your film, it's not going to be epic. A lot of fun, and I fully admit Charles and Erik were excellently protrayed, but not a great film) but playing around with a reboot and the idea of how to synch it with the first two parts of the X franchise gets that demented little gerbil a runnin' in my head. I'm created an AO3 account to finally archive all of my old fic, so I might as well use it for something else.

Mind you, this is me writing about the X-Men and the Brotherhood in 1968, so naturally it involves Khe Sanh, Russell Means, Martin Luther King, J. Edgar Hoover, the Young Lords, the Black Panthers, Prague Spring in Czechoslovakia, Andy Warhol, the Beatles, the Civil Rights Act and 2001. Yes, I know. There will be letters.

Second, I am eagerly waiting for the fourth season of Sons of Anarchy. Doqz recommended the show to me ages ago, but in my silly 'if I work really had for this company I'll be successful' phase, I watched next to no television in the evenings. I'm now catching back up, and it is easily the best I've seen so far. The writing is steller and the cast is top-notch. Pretty much entirely made up of character actors, SoA captures the unique, counterculture and criminal family bonds of a motorcycle club, and deftly shifts between both the positive and the wholly criminal and evil actions of people living such a life. It creates a wonderful grey area in which the criminals are both sympathetic to watch and yet never justified in what they choose to do. Extremely worth watching.
