dexfarkin: (shakespeare)
The fanfiction debate has stormed in once again. It always amazes me just how many authors simply ‘get it wrong’. It was darkly humourous the first time, when comic book authors were loudly decrying fanfic as intellectually stunted and an affront to writing, and in the next sentence mentioned that they would be writing Batman for the next twelve issues, but irony isn’t some peoples strong suit.

To weigh in, as I must in order to hear my own voice, on the thorny topic of fanfiction, I’m going to ignore the various arguments of the against side, just because we’ve heard them, and the for side, just because they are shrill and usually feel the need to start their argument with ‘As a Harry/Snape shipper…’ and kill the veracity of their argument.

And, yes, if your favourite relationship to write about is the statutory rape of a teenaged boy by his much older teacher, you really should not be expected to be taken seriously arguing legal matters.
