Two years ago, I did a project called Thirty Stop, a NanoWriMo initiative in which I did a piece of short fiction every day for a month. As a way to provide motivation, I took pledges from people on behalf of the Toronto Adult Literacy Fund, with the deal that if I completed 30 straight days of fiction, they would donate to the Fund, and if I missed a day or failed, I would donate $10 in each pledges name to the fund myself instead. You can find the project here: http://dexfarkin.livejournal.com/140232.html
I've decided to take on a new challenge, more traditional, being the full 50,000 word novel. Like last time, I offer a challenge for myself, and am looking for pledges. If I successfully reach my 50,000 word limit (which will be independantly confirmed), pledges will donate any amount they wish to the Frontier College Foundation. The Foundation sponsors literacy programs for youths, teens, and adults around Toronto, along with educational assistance and tutoring for people looking to complete their high school education. If I fail to reach 50,000 words, I will donate $10CDN each in the name of every pledge (although you're still welcome to donate if you choose). I will bore people with weekly updates, so you'll know where you stand. This project will not be connected with any current formats that I regularly write in, so writing involving political blogging, baseball reports, and online roleplaying will not count towards any total.
Please pledge by commenting to this post. Please do not add the amount of your pledge. Every dollar is worthwhile, and is private between you and the charity. I had ten pledges last time, and I'd like to aim for twenty this year. Just think, if I flake out, that's $200 to the charity. So please, just drop your name below if you're willing to put a couple of dollars towards a good cause.
