Sep. 16th, 2009 10:12 amThe Tories lost a 36 year lock on an Alberta riding to the candidate from the Wildrose Party in a provincial by-election. The Wildrose Party, which is slightly to the right of Jeb Bush, is in the process of mounting a challenge between TC 'True Conservatives' and PC 'Phony Conservatives' in the province. This is something that very much does not bode well for the federal Conservatives. Alberta has been their heartland, and if they get a new party tacking right on them, they'll be forced to shift right in order to perserve their bloq, and that means they'll put seats in Ontario and Quebec in danger. I've been expecting a new harder right movement to come out of the Prairies for a little while, but this is a much more significant shift than I expected.

The Jays launch into a psychohilly freakout behind Jesse Carlson, after Jorge 'Mr Potatohead' Posada throws a cheap elbow into the pitcher as he was backing up home plate. In the last three games against the Yankees, four Jays hitters have been hit by Yankees' pitchers, including Randy Ruiz who took one in the eye, and Aaron Hill who was absolutely drilled in the 6th inning under the left shoulderblade with a fastball.
Now, in baseball, there is a basic rule that if they go after your guys, you send a message that it's not going to be tolerated. Carlson, with Posada at the plate, tossed a ball that missed behind Posada. The lumpy chinless Yankees catcher took exception to it, and made a few movements to the mound. He drew a walk, and later came around to score on a double up the right field line, which is where he threw his cheap shot.
There is a very good reason to hate the Yankees. Not just the sense of entitlement and the ridiculous payroll, but the kind of mentality that says the rules only ever get to apply one way. It's even stupider when you consider that the Yankees are in a playoff race, and it is very easy to lose a key player in a brawl by accident. My only regret was that Matt Stairs is no longer with the Jays for this, because the New Brunswick assassin would have gone after A-Rod regardless of the circumstances and fucked him up proper.

Date last night. Involved steak and a green tie. There is no bad there.
