Can. Not. Sleep.
EDIT
And because I can't, I feel the need to weigh in on the multitude of threads surrounding Joss Whedon's 'Dr Horrible's Sing-A-Long Blog'. I will now for the record state I watched it, I enjoyed it, especially for Neil Patrick Harris and Nathan Fillon, who play beautifully off each other, and the music is poppy/catchy enough to be stuck in my head for ages.
But, seriously people, it's a 40 minute musical joke with an incredibly telegraphed twist at the end. That's it. Please stop looking for great depth in it. The idea of Dr. Horrible is essentially the Trio from Buffy again, just wrapped up into a more obvious and faster joke. Captain Hammer is great, especially with Nathan Fillon smarming his way through all the lines, but the Superman-esque hero being an egotistical fratboy schmuck, not anything new.
And, *shuddergasp* there's the plot device love interest/woman come between/tragic victim (played very well despite next to nothing material by the oddly attractive Felicia Day) who only needs a Robin costume to be a more obvious winner of the 'Dying for the Sake of Protagonist Development' award.
For the people delving into this to question Whedon's feminist credits, really, there's like seventeen books and a thousand academic articles covering the range of Joss is the new voice for woman's rights to Joss hates all women and can't write them ever. I have a hard time taking the analysis of what amounts to a filmed improv skit all that seriously as a look at his work or an indictment of his personal beliefs.
Speaking of, everyone else who is talking with great depth of emotion about being touched by the nature of the character and finding great meaning. Guys, he's trying to get into a super-villain league run by an evil horse. All three main characters are cartoon stereotypes, which is why we feel sympathy for the obvious 'nice guy geek gone wrong' portrayal of Dr Horrible. Even I said 'aw' at the end and felt bad for the guy for a minute, mostly thanks to Harris' expert delivery. But please, stop acting like this reached some great raw nerve you never could understand and now life has more clarity. If so, my god do you need to get to a library and a dvd rental place and expand your entertainment.
It's a fun, silly little piece that I enjoyed, and I'm glad Joss and the others spent the time on the WGA strike to come up with something fairly unlikely from someone who has substantial media pull to do. Also, Joss' music is bizarrely entertaining, which always helps. But yeah, one more giant post about Dr Horrible getting the same kind of analysis as the Godfather, or one more person claiming 'The Dark Knight' is the 'best film of all time' is going to send me on a blood drenched killing spree which I will use the lack of REM sleep and you all as the reason for why.
