After watching several episodes, I have come to the conclusion that this is one of the worst shows I've seen in years. The acting is mostly wooden, the writing is based on stereotype and cliche almost to the point of offensiveness, the overall plot points are badly cribbed from comics and series (which did them better) of the last twenty years, and the direction is so piss-poor to almost be laughable. Whoever lights this show needs a foot up their ass at the very least.
Considering the praise it has gotten from all the people I know, I'm honestly astonished by how bad it is. I mean, sure, I thought Lost was terrible, but it was well acted, had some very beautiful cinematography and even where it failed, at least it tried to be innovative. I can understand how people got sucked into that. But Heroes just muddles through a combination of badly imitated X-Files shot selections, more chewing of the scenery than your average dinner theatre production, and a script that looks like the actors each got a sketch of their character with a funny one-liner on it and were told to wing it from there.
The real problem is that the thing looks as sadly dated as your mother in gogo boots and hot pants, trying to do the hustle. If it was mid-90s sci-fi, it would be an excellent offering between X-Files, Sliders, and that show that had some executive come up with the brainstorm that Lance Hendrikson would make a fantastic leading man.
