EDIT: Only three left. I'll make you all a deal. If you can guess the rest, I'll write a piece with all of them. And then likely go kill myself, but still...

I am bored. Thus, you can all entertain me.

1. Post a list of TV shows, books, movies, or other series of entertainment.
2. Have your friends guess your favorite character from each entry.
3. When guessed correctly, add them to the list and write a sentence explaining why you like them.

1. X-Men - Cyclops
Guessed by [livejournal.com profile] nute and [livejournal.com profile] ferox.
Started into comics with Scott, was one of the very few vocal fans of him on-line back in the late 90s, and most of my top fanfiction involves him. I also so totally called the idea of Scott and Emma three years before Morrison.

2. Marvel - excluding the X-Men - Ultimate Captain America
Guessed by [livejournal.com profile] dandesun
I'm a big fan of the Ultimates, because it's what a government superhero team should be; morally conflicted, neurotic, and endlessly puppeted. The Ultimate Cap is very much a 40s mentality, with all of the negatives that come with it. He's got a strong fascist sense to his patriotism, his attitudes towards women, and his dealings with men. He's a Golden Age hero in a new world, and there's no effort to show how things have changed. I don't like him much, but I love reading him.

3. Discworld - Lord Havelock Vetinari
Guessed by [livejournal.com profile] nute
A very close winner against Vimes and Granny Weatherwax, the Patrician of Ankh-Morpork is indeed my favourite. Pratchett's own surprisingly deft skewering of politics and vox populi through Vetinari allows ends up my favourite elements of any of the books, and his interactions always draw so much out of other characters.

4. Star Wars - Episode 1-6 - Obi-Wan 'Ben' Kenobi
Guessed by [livejournal.com profile] dandesun
When you get right down to it, the saga is about Vader and Kenobi, their various rises and falls, and how each embodies the light and the dark side. Also, Ewan McGregor has the singular ability to make Lucas' dialogue actually work, so in Episode 2-3, his parts are the most watchable.

5. Star Wars - post episode 6 novels - Gen. Wedge Antilles
Guessed by [Unknown site tag]
I really enjoyed Wedge in the X-Wing books. He was the only slightly normal guy that you could believe as a General. Good characterization, good cast, cybernetic Ewok jokes... what's not to love?

6. Star Wars - Knights of the Old Republic series (games, comics, books) - Atton Rand
Guessed by [livejournal.com profile] lisew
See, he starts out as the lame Carth Onasi character, but at least gets the good lines. Would be totally forgetable until he gets to his past; when he used to kill Jedis. A lot of Jedis. After seducing them and putting the vibroblade in the ribs. He's so much better evil, because he just stops caring.

7. West Wing - Leo McGarry
Guessed by [livejournal.com profile] alasdair and [livejournal.com profile] ferox
As much as I enjoy the cast as a whole, Leo is really the character that pulls me in. He's got a devious political mind and knows every trick in the book, but that's wrapped around a core of integrity and moral will that makes him the perfect chief of staff.

8. Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip - Jack Rudolph
Guessed by [livejournal.com profile] dandesun and [livejournal.com profile] alasdair
There was a great quote, can't remember who it was from, about what the job of a television writer was, and that is to make money. If you can make art in the process, that's even better, but the bottom line is that it's a business, and if it pays, it plays. That's Jack Rudolph. He's not for bad television, and he's not against good television. He doesn't get wrapped up in what it is, and focuses on what it does. Also, it's the guy from Wings, man.

9. Buffy the Vampire Slayer
10. Angel - Doyle
Guessed by [livejournal.com profile] nute
Yeah, this one was a gimmie. Drunken mick half-demon who wants to bone Cordelia right off the bat.

11. Vertigo - the rest of the comics line
12. Fables - Kay
Guessed by [livejournal.com profile] alasdair
There is no story that is fundamentally creepier or more intriguing than that of Kay, the Woodsman of the Snow White fable. The fact that he looks like a thirty year old Dustin Hoffman after being rolled down a set of stairs and only has peace after he's gouged out his own eyes every ten years or so is icing on the cake.

13. Firefly - River Tam
Guessed by [livejournal.com profile] ferox
Also a pretty easy one. I react to Mal the most, but the one that interests me and gets under my skin most is River. She's a fascinating character to deconstruct, and Glau's surprisingly effective ability to switch between barking mad and innocent girl.

14. Rome - Octavian
Guessed by [livejournal.com profile] dandesun and [livejournal.com profile] redhawk
Attia is close, but Octavian? My central enjoyment of the show is how Max Pirkis is able to transition him from a teen to the proto-Augustus Caesar. The fact even Pullo is a little shocked at his cold necessity and purpose 'cut his thumbs off' makes for some great interactions. As for Brutus, I like both the actor and his storyline a lot, although there's a little too much heavy handed writing with him this season.

15. Final Fantasy (5-7)
