Yes, I realise that Live8 will be about as effective as a chocolate hammer in terms of Africa. Africa's problems are so immense and stuck for the most part at tribal levels that the West fails to consider that the influx of money will most go into Swiss accounts for warlords and the arms trade.
All of that being said, fuck me if Barrie isn't putting on one absolutely kickass concert. I mean, the other ones have Madonna and Matthew Good making impassioned lame statements of trendy social conscious. In Barrie, Randy Bacheman gets up, rips the fucking top off of it and rocks out. None of the obviously fake shit, just comparing things to the poverty he saw in Northren Ontario as a kid and saying 'it's bullshit.' That's the one I want to be at.
And, in proving that I can never be cool ever, I'm stoked waiting for the Hip and Four-chord Gord Lightfoot.
