Notes from the asshole of the world
Aug. 10th, 2004 04:38 pmObviously, I'm rereading Transmet again.

DexCon went very well. In fact, likely one of the best yet. Lots of new people, lots of old people, lots of people who took a while to figure out that No is a perfectly acceptable answer to "Hey, buy me a drink!". I have a lovely poster now.
Still way too tired and burnt out to do the whole con report, but I will in the near future. Thanks to everyone who helped, and hopefully everyone had a good time. If you are interested in what's going on next year, check out the Dexcon community on lj. I'll be posting details this week.

Slowly spinning the writing back up. The time demands and stress of this month sort of cut off everything I was working on for a little bit. However, that is going to change. Almost finished three articles to pitch to a small gaming magazine, just to try and pick up some credits in that area. Considering the absolute flood of exectable material coming out of most of the major publishers right now, I think there's going to be a nice cushion for some freelance work for next spring.
SMUT PEDDLER 2 came out. Word of advice, kids. Always get rushes. My story is missing the 3rd page. I mean gone. The letterer managed to squeeze five pages of text into four, but the flow is pretty much destroyed. Ah well, it still looks damn good, so I guess that is something. Managed to dump a chunk of what Ashlan needs to learn on her during the con, so that's a start.
Note to Ashlan: Flemish realism. Vanmeer, Rembrandt, Van Dyke. Go, and learn.

The new Civ videogame includes a Mesoamerican scenario in which you can increase your culture and power through capturing and ritually sacrificing your foes. Needless to say, I'm hooked. ph34r my Mayans, bitch!
For those who want to dump any freetime you might have into a videogame, I highly recommend Civ:Conquests. For the history junkie, they get a lot of details right, and the whole thing has finally moved past some of the clunkier issues of the previous two releases. That and now being up to around 31 individual playable Civs, and over 80 new ones hidden in the Conquest systems makes for an amazingly rich game.
I have firmly established my geekhood for today.

September is coming, and September is 'impress the shit out of the clients' month. That means I have a round of expensive clubs and restuarants to attend on the company's dime. The life of the corporate shill is soulless and life-destroying, but it does occasionally get you a $14 martini and a $65 coq au vin for nothing.
***
The roommate search continues, with some possibilities. Pebblin might come up, if not to stay but for a few months to relax. I continue to pitch Lise, but I have a feeling she's happy where she is right now. I have the possibility of an old friend from London, but he smokes and has a cat, both of which my girlfriend is painfully allergic to. If anyone has any interesting possibilities, drop me a line. I've been pretty successful with on-line people as roommates thus far.
