dexfarkin: (brain)
Slate has posted a list of those people that various pundits and editors have singled out blame for the tortures at Abu Ghraib prison. It can be found here: http://slate.msn.com/id/2100437/

I'd like to add the following people to the list, to help the esteemed CIC of the US and his incredibly effective buddy, Rummy the Kid.

Blame slashers
All that call for male on male action has twisted the minds of those poor servicemen and women working in Iraq so that they feel any groups of males in their hands must act out Oz-style love. Pvt.England is reputed to be a huge QaF fan, and refered to each prisoner as alternately 'Brian' and 'Ethan'. Obviously, slash in the military needs to be burned out with the delicate flamethrower of Congressional investigation.

Blame the cancellation of Angel
WB's callous 'torture' of millions of fans and their refusal to listen to protests has been mirrored by the actual torture and the refusal of the SecDef to listen to protests from the Red Cross and his own chain of command. Obviously, the prison is the next step up from letter writing campaigns by those 'crazy, amoral' show fans, and the blame can be laid on them and the network.

Blame Angel

Torture. Angelus. Case closed.

Blame Canada
Canada has fostered a culture of fear and violence by allowing gay marriages and medical hemp. Obviously, the US can only respond to such evil temptations and pressure with some good ol' colonial 'Beat Up The A-Rabs' style violence. If only we elected Stephan Harper and marched the town of Lethbridge off to war, things like Abu Ghraib wouldn't have happened.

Blame Saddam
Because he did the torture thing already, and those Iraqis expect it now. You can't teach an old dog new tricks (although Lynndie England tried) and those Iraqi types almost requested the torture flat out. The US troops had no choice, really. If only leftist media and John Kerry stopped denauncing it for political spin.

Blame Fandom Wank
Because everyone else does. Plus, Hitler tortured people.

Blame the British navy

They came up with 'rum, the lash, and sodomy' first, and gave the idea to the soldiers. In that vain, we can also blame Russel Crowe, Paul Bretteny, the entire team of "Master and Commander", Lord Horiato Nelson, and Horiato Hornblower, even if the last one is fictional.

Besides, think about it. Just because the president and the SecDef are the ones ultimately responsible for the actions and movements of the military, it doesn't mean that, you know, they're _really_ responsible. That wouldn't be fair.

I'm sure Saddam would agree.
