The obligatory Holiday post, even though I have missed the actual day by about an hour.

So, Dex, that wacky man of fun and mystery has finished off his Christmas rattling around his apartment, working off the drinks of Christmas Past (unlike ghosts, there were more than three, and I couldn't have order an urchin off for a goose with a translator who can speak drunkenese.) My apartment is really large when it's just my apartment. That doesn't happen often.

A lot of people talk about being depressed or feeling a sense of disappoint during the holidays because we build up one large image of it in our minds, and it just never seems to make it. Fortunately, I'm not one of them. I do love Christmas, but approach it with the strangest sense of the blaise; more embarassed at the attention than setting up grandous plans. That's something that's more of a recent development.

You see, up until three years ago, my entire immediate family lived in a ten kilometre radius of London, ONT. Now, we're spread across three countries, five time zones, and the need for really good long distance packages. The warm family Christmas is gone to a large extent, and I haven't quite figured out what the 'new' Christmas is supposed to be yet. Leaves me feeling like I missed out on doing something in a vague way. Kids, take that as a fact. The older you get, the weirder life gets. Thus endeth the lesson.

So, begs the question, what is Christmas to me this year? Right now, it's a pint of very fine German lager, the start of 'Buffy' Season Three, and a cat that is punishing me for leaving him alone for 24 hours by doing his best imitation of a fuzzy scarf on my head. All in all, I can think of worst ways to spend my holiday. *grin*

Quick thanks to Celendra and Kyri for the lovely X-Mas cards. The best to the both of you.

As to the rest of the fanfic types... fuck, it's been a strange year all around. People coming, people going, shake-ups, break-ups, dust-ups, fuck-ups and the odd knees-up. That's a lot of up. Hopefully up is the look for the new year. I've got plans, I'm sure you lot do, and things are going to be fun.

So, as with all Holiday style posts, I leave you with a somewhat trite yet always true holiday message (no matter which winter solistice/Christmas/Hannukah/etc day off you're enjoying.

May your life be as you wish, your success as you've earned and your coming year as you deserve.

Happy Holidays

The followup.

First point is that waking up at 3pm, after a solid night of bizarre and intensely vibriant dreams is not the way I like to start my day. Thank god for the joy that is Coke.

So, it's Boxing Day sales. The day when stores flush out their backstock by offering top line items for heavy discounts. I do a lot of shopping on Boxing Day. This year included the hardcover of David Weber's "War of Honor". It's fluff reading, I know, but extremely entertaining. Interestingly enough, the writer who introduced me to Weber, Elena Zovatto, is working on a new Buffy story which can be found at the Fonts. Highly recommended.

I also found the new Eco hardcover, "Baudolino". I fell in love with Eco back from "The Name of the Rose", and his "Foucault's Pendulum" served as a sort of literary awakening for me. To have him triapsing around the twelveth century again is extremely heartening. New ideas, of course.

As well, Blockbuster was clearing out the previously viewed videos, so I grabbed "John Q", "The Mothman Prophecies", "Talking Anout Sex", and "A Night At The Blue Iguana". Total cost, thirteen dollars. So, I have reading and watching set for a couple of days.

I noticed today that a lot of people use my artwork for icons. Weird.
